Bocan Creche: solar and a heat pump for a warmer, cheaper-to-run building
A solar panel and air to water heat pump retrofit for a childcare premises in Bocan, Co. Donegal, backed by SEAI supports.
The project
Bocan Creche is open through the working day, with children and staff who need a warm, comfortable building from morning to evening. That makes heating and electricity a constant cost.
We fitted rooftop solar panels alongside an air to water heat pump, replacing older, more expensive heating with a system sized to how a busy childcare premises actually runs.
Because the creche uses most of its power during daylight hours, more of the solar output can be used on site, and SEAI supports were factored in and handled as part of the job.

Assessment
We looked at the creche's roof, heating system and daily electricity use before recommending anything, so the system matches the building rather than a standard package.
Install
Rooftop solar panels and an air to water heat pump, fitted around the running of a working childcare service to keep disruption to a minimum.
Result
A warmer building on lower running costs, with SEAI supports handled for the creche as part of the job.
Why it works
Solar generates most when the creche is busiest, and a heat pump delivers steady, even warmth that suits a building occupied all day.
